Ranger Tremor Spied: Ford Fills the FX4–Raptor Gap

Ranger Tremor Spied: Ford Fills the FX4–Raptor Gap

Spy shots show a U.S. Ford Ranger Tremor prototype on KO3s with rock rails and armor. Hardware clues, rivals, and the timeline to watch.

Zealots, I have a soft spot for trucks that work on Tuesday and still clear a rutted fire road on Saturday. The Ranger Raptor is the hallway poster; 405-hp twin-turbo V-6, Fox Live Valve drama, Baja cosplay. Cool. Expensive. Not what most of us need to haul mulch and poke into the trees. The hole between a bolt-on FX4 package and that halo toy has been screaming since the current Ranger arrived for 2024 without a Tremor. Michigan spy photos from early September 2026 say Ford heard it. 1

The Raptor stays the party trick. Meanwhile, Tremor looks like the actual trail/work truck; armor, KO3s, and a price sandwich that undercuts Colorado ZR2 Bison money while staring down Tacoma TRD Off-Road buyers who want more metal under the chin.

What the prototypes are wearing (BFG KO3 265/70R17, rock-rail steps, skid, grille)

Car and Driver’s KGP Photography shots caught the mule testing in Michigan with almost insultingly little camo. The telltale patches sit where Tremor bed and tailgate graphics live on global trucks. Up front: mesh Tremor-style grille, black crossbar bisected by the Ford oval, black grille-to-bumper trim, and a chunkier-looking front skid plate. 1

Rubber is the mic drop. Same size as overseas Tremors; 265/70R17—but wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 instead of the General Grabber AT3s used abroad. Rock rails with integrated side steps run the rockers. CarBuzz’s parallel photos call out the same KO3s (about 31.6 in / ~803 mm tall), elevated stance, front skid, and mesh grille akin to F-150 Tremor patterns, plus camo exactly where Tremor badges go. 2 3

GM Authority framed the same prototype as a Canyon AT4 / Colorado Trail Boss rival and noted black six-spoke wheels matching the global Tremor pattern. Again on U.S.-spec BFGoodrich 17s, not Grabbers. 4

Global Tremor hardware that should transfer

Ford already sells Ranger Tremor outside North America. The U.S. mule looks like that recipe with American rubber and (probably) American engines.

From Ford Australia’s current Tremor showroom page—the clearest primary source for what “Tremor” means on this generation:

  • Position-sensitive Bilstein dampers
  • 261 mm (~10.3 in) unladen ground clearance
  • 1,650 mm (~65.0 in) track width
  • 800 mm (~31.5 in) wading depth
  • General Grabber AT3 all-terrains (U.S. spy truck swaps these for KO3s)
  • Full-time 4WD, locking rear differential
  • Seven drive modes including Rock Crawl, plus Trail Control and Trail Turn Assist 5

Car and Driver and Ford-Trucks both expect the U.S. truck to borrow that Bilstein-with-remote-reservoir / wider-track / Trail Turn Assist / Trail Control toolkit, with springs that add roughly 26 mm (~1 in) of clearance versus a standard Ranger in other markets. 1 3

What we aren’t doing: inventing U.S. suspension travel numbers. Travel hasn’t been published. Clearance, dampers, and modes above are global/Aussie facts or reasoned transfers.

Prior-gen U.S. Ranger Tremor (through 2023) already proved the brief: all-terrains, Fox dampers, e-locker, metal steps, skids makes a capable truck without going full Raptor. 1

Ford Ranger Tremor On Dirt Road

Expected powertrains and price sandwich

Global Tremors lean diesel (Australia’s current page lists a 3.0L V6 turbo-diesel: 184 kW / ~247 hp and 600 Nm / ~443 lb-ft). 5 That mill is not the U.S. Ranger’s diet. Stateside Rangers run the turbo 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 and twin-turbo 2.7L EcoBoost V6; the Raptor keeps its own 3.0L twin-turbo V-6 and the 405-hp brag. Expect Tremor to stick to the gas EcoBoosts (likely both, or at least the 2.7) rather than importing diesel. 3

Price sandwich (reported): Car and Driver puts a 2026 Lariat from $45,850 and the Raptor from $59,165, and slots Tremor somewhere in between. 1

Rival street prices for the same conversation (2026 starting figures from dealer/industry roundups):

  • Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road: about $44,110
  • Chevy Colorado Trail Boss: about $42,595
  • Colorado ZR2: about $52,795
  • Colorado ZR2 Bison: about $62,795 6

If Tremor lands between Lariat and Raptor with real skids, rails, and KO3s, it undercuts ZR2 Bison armor money and crowds the TRD Off-Road / Trail Boss / base ZR2 mailbox. That’s the intention for this trim.

Timeline signals (debut later 2026 / on-sale 2027–28)

Car and Driver expects a debut before the end of 2026 and on-sale timing into 2028, while also calling it a truck that “will arrive for the 2027 model year”. Industry speak for late reveal, later deliveries. 1 Ford-Trucks reads the light camo as a strong 2027 model year tell. 3 Separate Ford Authority / Automotive News reporting has pointed at a broader U.S. Ranger refresh around 2027 (possibly 2028 models), with Tremor possibly landing before that mid-cycle wave. 7

Bottom line for Zealots: watch a mid-2027 reveal window and a 2027-28 showroom window. We’ll keep an eye out for you.
